ConnectorsOverview This lesson shows how to perform automatic and manual component assignments. This lesson also introduces the component/connector concepts. It is essential for all the components referenced by the connection list to be assigned unique identifiers. It is through these identifiers that the system finds and assigns paths to each wire. If a wire is defined as going to or from a component ID that has not been assigned to an actual component in the assembly then that wire cannot be routed.
Lesson 6B - Auto Assign Component Step 1 | Select all records of the component list by placing the cursor over white space in the component list and pressing MB3 to display the pop up menu. Choose Select All from the pop up. | Step 2 | Place the cursor over the selected records and then select Auto Assign from the MB3 pop up menu. - Not all components are assigned. The assigned records are de-selected and their value for the OCCUR field is changed from N (not occurring) to A (automatic assignment).1 l6 A: E6 b1 t) Y: P( m
NOTE: The symbol at the beginning of each component list entry also show the state of the record. A red slashed circle indicates the record is not assigned. A green check mark indicates that it is assigned. - The components that did not get assigned are still highlighted. These could not be automatically assigned because there exists more than one component with the given part name. These must be chosen manually.

Lesson 6C - Manually Assign Component Step 1 | Place the cursor over any of the records still selected. Choose Manual Assign from the MB3 pop up menu. - The Assign Component ID dialog appears with the first selected component ID (CONN_B) showing. One of the components having a part number matching the part number given in the component list is highlighted in the graphics window.& ?) D3 ~4 O, A2 e, K$ d
| Step 2 | Perform a Fit to display the entire assembly. | Step 3 | Choose the Next Part button to identify the other part in the assembly with a matching part name. Use Next Part and Previous Part as necessary to highlight the component in the middle of the assembly. | Step 4 | Choose OK to accept this component for the assignment of the ID CONN_B.The Assign Component ID dialog advances to the next ID to be assigned and highlights the remaining component with that part number. | Step 5 | Choose OK again to accept the highlighted component to be assigned the ID CONN_B2.NOTE: Manual Assignment does not require that you assign an ID to a component with a matching part number. At this point you can select any component to assign the ID. This is why this component is not automatically assigned the ID CONN_B2, even tho UGh it's the only remaining component with the correct part number. | Step 6 | Assign the remaining components by accepting the default choices. |
