Stock is the material that connects standard parts along a path in the routing. The Routing application determines what stock is; for Piping stock is pipe, for Tubing stock is tubing, etc. Wiring is a special case where the stock represents bundles of wires.  Model stock by sweeping profile curves along one or more segments. Stock may carry characteristics and be displayed with different levels of display detail.

Starting in Unigraphics NX, you may create stock as individual components, rather than simply solids in the current work part. There are now two modes in which stock is created; Stock As Components mode (SAC) or Legacy Stock mode (LS). Any pre-Unigraphics NX part is in Legacy mode by default, unless converted to SAC mode. Once you convert a part to SAC mode, you will not be able to transform the part back into Legacy mode. It is not required that a Legacy mode part be converted to SAC mode ?Routing continues to support parts with stock in Legacy mode.

·         NOTE:  An environment variable must be set in your session to enable Stock As Components mode. Refer to the Routing Administrative Help.

Legacy Stock

In Legacy Stock (LS) mode, create stock as a solid in the work part. LS does not show up in the Assemblies Parts List, nor the Teamcenter Engineering BOM.  In Product Vision the stocks all show up in the work part.

Stock as Components

Create SAC stock as a component in the work part. Initially stock component parts have automatically generated part names. Consider these stock components as intermediate or temporary parts. Once the routing assembly is completed, rename these temporary stock component parts and make them into permanent (or released) parts. Routing does not delete the temporary parts. Administration of temporary parts is up to the customer. The following functionality is specific to SAC mode:

·         Ability to display/hide SAC components in the ANT.

·         Re-use of components based on a user exit that specifies which component to use for a piece of stock.

·         Temporary name of components through a user exit.

·         Permanent name of components through a user exit, as well as the ability to change the component name manually.

·         Lock/unlock components through a user exit.  This determines the modification of a stock component.

The following sections in this topic specifically discuss how to assign stock, remove stock, control the display of stock, and orient stock. This section describes general procedures relating to stock.

Wiring assigns stock differently. Assign wires to paths through the Rlist Navigator, according to the imported connection list.  Wiring then calculates bundle diameters given the number and types of wire along each section of the path and assigns a bundle stock of appropriate size to each section.  

A new feature for Wiring is the ability to assign Space Reservation stock, which allows you to create a stock along the paths without requiring a connection list.  Except for Space Reservation and the assignment of overstock (dressings), most of this topic does not relate directly to the Wiring application.  See Wiring Help for further information.
