      Knowledge

      Knowledge Fusion has elevated Unigraphics to the next generation of
      MCAx, placing Unigraphics as much as two years ahead of the nearest
      competition. While other MCAx vendors are busy reinventing the wheel
      when it comes to knowledge capture, Knowledge Fusion has completely
      integrated an industry standard Knowledge Based Engineering language
      into the system. This language has been in use in the engineering
      community for years, meaning that Unigraphics can use a wealth of
      already existing third party knowledge content instead of having to
      re-implement from scratch.

      Knowledge Fusion is also the foundation for many new value added
      process-centric tools. These tools automate and provide expert
      project guidance in such areas as automotive body development,
      welding, die design and manufacturing, gear design, general checker,
      and much more. It's about solving complex problems quickly and
      easily.

      Innovation

      Shape Studio is a unique solution created specifically for Stylists
      and Industrial Designers. Shape Studio enables quick development
      of concept models with its powerful suite of surface definition,
      shaping and visualization tools. Shape Studio also allows designers
      to extend concept models into engineering models providing flexible
      array of curve and surface construction and shaping tools for
      complex form development. Shape Studio offers a single integrated
      environment that eliminates the necessity to build models twice.
      Such an environment provides complete associativity throughout the
      entire design through manufacturing process.

      With V18 Unigraphics, Shape Studio introduces 12 new curve and
      surface functions, combined with over 20 new features and
      enhancements for usability and visualization. This represents a
      significant investment, which designers will undoubtedly find
      helpful in improving their productivity while expanding their
      creative abilities.

      Productivity

      Unigraphics is the only system that is able to offer three types of
      modeling methods: traditional, parametric (history-based), and
      direct. Direct Modeling eXtensions, DMX was first introduced in V17
      of Unigraphics. With this latest release DMX greatly expands the
      designer's ability to effectively reuse legacy data without having
      to invest significant and costly effort in remodeling. For history
      based models, DMX enables designers to quickly and easily make
      modifications independent of the structure or history of the model.

      Design and manufacturing engineers can easily add constraints and
      parameters to modify non-parametric models. In addition, designers
      can quickly make changes to parametric models independent of how
      those models were constructed. These capabilities eliminate delays
      inherent with modifying traditional and parametric models.

      Collaboration

      Unigraphics V18 is the first and only MCAx system to offer real-time
      design collaboration capabilities. Unigraphics Collaborate enables
      engineering, design, and manufacturing to communicate remotely and
      see updates immediately. The key advantage of this technology is
      that each participant gets to work in their own context, meaning
      that they can focus on what is important to them and quickly grasp
      how changes will impact their area of responsibility.

      Realization

      Unigraphics V18 Manufacturing is the premier CAM product in the
      industry. With V18 release we are introducing a new set of
      functionality that will dramatically raise our customer's level of
      productivity. This new standard is based on our In-Process-Workpiece
      technology (IPW), which offers automatic machining of uncut regions
      in both roughing and finishing turning and milling operations. The
      results of this new technology are optimized tool paths with minimal
      air cutting.

      Summary

      Unigraphics V18 includes over 200 additional enhancements in feature
      and solid modeling, assembly modeling, engineering structural and
      motion simulation, drafting, and manufacturing. The introduction of
      Smart Models provides designers with the ability to reuse attribute
      data - such as surface finishes and fabrication instructions - in
      downstream applications. Dimensional Management tools offer
      designers the ability to closely simulate model tolerances and
      thereby eliminate assembly fit errors.

      Significant enhancements have been made in automating a variety of
      design processes through the use of process wizards. Based on
      Knowledge Fusion technology, automotive applications like Door
      Design Wizard, Body Design Wizard, Gear Wizard, Die Engineering
      Wizard, and Design for Manufacturing Advisor, enable design
      engineers to significantly reduce design cycle times, while
      increasing product quality.

      All these enhancements are focused on improving productivity,
      promoting collaboration, increasing control, and effectively
      responding to changing markets.
